The Chagford Montessori Nursery School is committed to providing a happy, healthy and safe environment that will enable every child, aged between two and six years to cultivate his/her own natural desire to learn. We celebrate the unique qualities and contribution of each individual.
The Nursery School is child centred. Each child is allowed to learn and develop at his/her own pace. We provide a thoughtfully prepared learning environment that encourages children to make choices, to take pride in their own achievements and grow in independence. This builds their self-esteem, confidence and most importantly a lifelong love of learning.
At Chagford Montessori we base our approach on the philosophy of Maria Montessori. We have the full range of Montessori materials which enables children to discover and learn according to what most interests them, be it sensory exploration, gaining knowledge about our world, early maths, literacy or being creative. During each session the children will gain experience in managing ‘real life’ situations and social experiences similar to the dilemmas that we all face in our daily lives!
Children at Chagford Montessori are constantly observed by qualified Montessori teachers who are trained to know when and how to intervene and guide children to further development. Each child has a key teacher whose role is to oversee the learning and development of their key children and to work in partnership with parents to ensure children’s individual needs are met.
The Montessori method of early education is fully compatible with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We strive to work in partnership with parents and regularly hold informative talks and have lots of further information if you would like to know more.
